Description

Aalto has on many occasions alluded to the inspiring part played by southern, and especially Italian landscape and architecture in his work at different stages. In the design of the Jyväskylä Workers’ Club are traces of the old southern building tradition, as applied in the classicist spirit pervasive in Finland during the early 1920’s.

The design includes a cafe and restaurant floor and above them raised on the first floor a theater auditorium. The whole has been carefully examined and treatment extended to the now already changed interior details, which were in the orginal plan designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto right up to the light fittings and furniture.
